The Facts:

The war in northern Uganda has been going on for 25 years; it is the longest running civil war in Africa.

31% of the Ugandan population lives below one US dollar a day.

One in five children in northern Uganda has lost either one or both parents to the conflict there.

1.8 million people have been involuntarily displaced since the beginning of the Ugandan war. 800,000 people have since been able to return to their homes; however most have no homes to go home to or have been displaced for 10 years or more.

One in three young men and one in six young women have been abducted at some point in his or her life, many of whom are forced to become child soldiers.
