Beginning in the Spring of 2006, Ridge View introduced a new online, computer-based learning system. Called NovaNET, the system will be used for both credit retrieval (excessive absences) and credit recovery (failed coursework). NovaNET consists of a series of online courses correlated to state and national high school standards and provides students with the opportunity to earn credits without having to retake courses in summer school or the following school year. Most of the core academic classes offered at Ridge View High School are available on the NovaNET system.

Credit Retrieval:

• If a student has four or fewer absences to make up in a semester-length course, or eight or fewer absences in a year-long course, he/she may sign up for NovaNET to make up the time to earn credit.
• The cost is $30 per block class per absence or $15 per skinny class per absence.
• The student must complete the hours within a prescribed period of time to earn the credit in the course.
• Students receiving a grade of F/A (Failed for Attendance) in a Semester One course will need to sign up for NovaNET within the first five days of Semester Two or their schedules will be changed (for example, if a student received a grade of F/A in Spanish I in Semester One and was enrolled in Spanish II Semester Two the student would be dropped from Spanish II if he/she did not enroll in NovaNET to clear the excessive absences).

Credit Recovery:

• Students who received a grade between 65 and 69 in a course and do not have excessive absences qualify to retake the course on NovaNET.
• Students successfully repeating the course on NovaNET will earn a grade of 70 in the failed course.
• Seniors have priority.
• Students repeating a course on NovaNET second semester must sign up within the first five days of class to avoid a grade of W/F (Withdrew Failing) in the rescheduled course (for example, a student already rescheduled to take American Government second semester must register to take the course on NovaNET within the first five days of class to avoid a grade of W/F in the regular course).
• The cost of NovaNET is $150 for a 1 credit course and $75 for a ½ credit course.
• The course is self-paced.
  

The NovaNET lab will be in room D-91 and open during the school day. We are currently making arrangements for the lab to be open before and after school as well. Students can pick up the NovaNET registration form in the guidance office. To enroll in NovaNET you will need to do the following:

1. Get a signature from your guidance counselor;
2. Pay the fee with the bookkeeper in the main office;
3. Bring the completed registration form to the NovaNET lab in room D-91 in order to be
   logged into the system.
