Ridge View Public Relations Guidelines

Ridge View High School Football players and Cheerleaders participated in a Behavior Management Reward incentive Program at Sandlapper Elementary. The kids did a wonderful job instructing the kids from grades K-5. There was a piece where they shared their goals and also had time to demonstrate football techniques and some cheers to about 75 students.

n conjunction with the USC Family Medicine Department, Ridge View High School Health Science's community partner, students from Mrs. Hinson's EMS III class and Mrs. Melton's HST II class were invited to attend the USC Faculty and Staff Benefits Fair on Thursday, October 8.

Dr. Sarah Crickman, USC/Palmetto Richland Family Medicine Intern, presented a lecture entitled "Introduction to Dermatology" on Wednesday, September 30 for the students in EMS III, Foundations of Health Science, and HST II at Ridge View High.

The following students have been chosen to participant in the 2009 Midlands Region Orchestra:

The following students earned awards at the 2009 South Carolina State Fair for their visual artwork. The pieces include drawings, paintings, sculpture, and pottery. Their work will be on display at the fair through October 25. The Ridge View Boys Cross Country team won the 2009 Sandhills Invitational! The JV Boys finished 2nd. This race was held at Sandhills Research Park.It was a great day that also featured a reunion of former Ridge View runners coming back to participate in the Open Race that morning and a meet and greet with the current team.

Christopher Davis and Chanell Rose have been named the 2010 National Achievement Scholarship Semifinalists at RVHS!!!

Brian Rosefield, RVHS Job Coach and Athletic Coach, was named a WIS Person to Count On!

Dr. Warren, 9th Grade Lead Teacher, was sworn in as a Captain in the South Carolina State Guard.

The Blazer Band finished in 1st Place at the 2009 "Esprit de Corps" at Irmo High School! In addition, we won Best Music, Best Visual, Best Effect, Best Percussion and 2nd to Blythewood in Color Guard.

Ridge View High teachers take the 2009 Mud Run by Storm. Jessica Sweeney, Lisa Ellis, MAJ Gene England, Jennifer Borowiec, and Edwin Griffin all participated in the 2009 Marine Corps Mud Run at Fort Jackson.

Ellen Walker is the 2009 Newberry College Leader Certificate of Scholarship Recipient and has received a scholarship from Columbia College for four years at $90,000.

Ashli Moerke has been named a Designated Clemson Scholar. She will receive a $10,000 scholarship upon acceptance to Clemson University.

Congratulations to the Blazer Band for receiving a Superior Rating and 3rd Place in Class at the Olde English Festival of Bands at Rock Hill this past weekend. In addition, the Blazer Band received 2nd Place Percussion and 2nd Place Color Guard and 3rd Place Overall to Clover (1st) and Boiling Springs (2nd).

Congratulations to the Ridge View Lady Blazers Cross Country Team for an excellent meet on Saturday.

Congratulations to the boys cross country team for placing 2nd on Saturday at the Wendy's Invitational. Scorers for the Blazers were: Joe Keitt 4th, David Jennings 7th, Raeven Lantz 22nd, Jay Lynch 26th and Step Rembert 32nd. Their next race will be this Saturday morning at the Sandhills Invitational.

Congratulations to Andrew Drafts for making the automatic state qualifying time this weekend at the Region Meet in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Caitlyn Corn made the consideration time for state in the 50 free and 100 free, and Max Hamilton made the consideration time for state in the 500 free. Good Luck to Andrew, Caitlyn, and Max at the State Meet on Saturday!

Ridge View Boys Cross Country team won the International Division at the 2009 Coaches Classic! This is the first time in school’s history that the boys have won this meet!

The Teacher Cadets have been working with Instructional Technology Specialist, Donna Teuber, and learning about Geocaching, which is an outdoor activity in which the participants use a GPS receiver to hide and seek containers. With Mrs. Teuber's help, the cadets will be incorporating this fun activity into classroom assignments for Rice Creek Elementary students.

Max Culp is the newly elected president of the Ridge View High School Chapter of the National Technical Honor Society. Max’s duties as president will include presiding over all meetings of the organization, representing the members at Student Council meetings, and overseeing all fund-raising and community service activities. A senior at Ridge View, Max plans to major in business in college.

Hughston Armstrong has been academically accepted to The Citadel. Hughston has also been chosen to receive the Presidential Merit Scholarship from The King's College in New York City in the amount of $52,000.

Ellen Walker has been chosen to receive the Presidential Scholarship in the amount of $40,000 from The King's College in New York City.

Chris Davis and Chanell Rose have each been awarded $100,000 scholarships to attend FAMU (Florida A&M University). This includes tuition, fees, books, room and board, a stipend, and laptop computer.

RVHS teachers, Ellen Harrison and Wendi Wimmer are serving on the SC Visual and Performing Arts Standards Revision Committee. This is a year long commitment. Ellen is representing high school dance and Wendi is representing theatre in media arts.

RVHS is proud to announce that 47 students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams!

Congratulations to the Boys Cross Country Team for winning the 2009 Coaches Classic on Saturday at Sandhills. This is the first time in school history the boys have won this meet. Joe Keitt paced the Blazers with a time of 16:22 and a 6th place finish overall.

In July, 2009, Robin McCants attended and presented at the National Conference for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. McCants' presentation, "Differentiating Mythologically: Application in the Real Classroom," offered participants techniques of differentiation including jigsaw and expert groups as well as options for organizing information and grouping students flexibly. Comments from participants were positive. Ms. McCants enjoyed attending other sessions and meeting NBCTs from around the country.

RVHS Media Specialist, Kathy Carroll, has been approved by the Certification Council of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) to serve on the Library Media Standards Committee. She was selected from a pool of 425 exemplary applicants to serve on this committee, which will be responsible for review and revision, as necessary, of the existing Library Media Standards document.

Ridge View High School teacher Linda Hellstein has been selected as one of 185 Fellows selected to take part in the 2009/2010 Science Teacher Academy. The National Science Teachers Association and the Amgen Foundation sponsor the teacher academy each year to provide year-long professional development.

Congratulations to Rashmili Vemula on her Outstanding Web Page she created for her final exam in Mr. Houck's Web Page Design 1 class. She is truly an outstanding artist, archer, and now webmaster.

Martin Gonzalez, RVHS junior, has been selected to attend the Leadership University in Washington, D.C., June 14-19, 2009. Martin will be taking part in leadership seminars sponsored by LeadAmerica. Martin has also been selected to attend the 2009 Discover Clemson: Career Workshop II summer residential program.

Daryl O'Bryant, a student at Ridge View High School, has been selected to attend the 2009 Congressional Student Leadership Conference on Media & Journalism, sponsored by LeadAmerica.

Sierra Henderson
Sierra Henderson won the State Champion in the 4A division in the 800 meters. This is the 3rd time she has accomplished this task and is the only female athlete to attain this honor 3 times.

Justen Braddock was named 1st team All-State for 4A boys soccer as a goal keeper. Tony Del Valle was named to the 4A All- Area boys soccer team.

Congratulations to RVHS junior,Hughston Armstrong, on being selected 4-A Baseball Player of the Year for All Area. This is quite an honor for Hughston and the Ridge View Baseball program.

Congratulations to Jordan Dopp, Carla Mendoza Marrero, and Martha Hudgins who competed in the Regional competition of the National History Day held at Columbia College on Friday, April 3rd. Further congratulations to Martha Hudgins, whose paper was selected as top winner and the recipient of a one hundred dollar prize presented by the Colonial Dames of America.Carla Mendoza Marrero was also a Gold Medalist at the State Finals. Ridge View swept the Regional event by capturing all three spots that advance to the State Finals.

Each of these Scholars Academy students represented Ridge View at the State Finals held at the South Carolina Department of Archives, Saturday, April 25th. Congratulations to Carla Mendoza Marrero who was selected to attend the National History Day Finals held at the University of Maryland, June 14 - 18.

Two Ridge View seniors, Jasmine Austin and Shantavius Hall, have each been awarded the DECA National Marketing Education Honor Award, which recognizes academic excellence, leadership skills, involvement in DECA and community/school service. Jasmine serves as president of the Ridge View Chapter of DECA and Shantavius serves as vice president. Congratulations to these students.

Also, Congratulations to the Ridge View Girls 3200 meter relay team for being the 4 A State Champions in this event. The members of the relay team were Sierra Henderson, Eureka Jones, Mya Adams and Tamara Smith.

Also, congratulations to Ridge View Senior Justen Braddock for being named to the 4A All-State team in boys soccer. Justen was also selected to play in the South Carolina Coaches Association All-star Soccer game.

The following students have been selected by the RVHS Scholarship Committee as the 2009 Palmetto Boys State delegates: Christopher Davis, Jamal Davis, and Joshua Hoffbauer. Brian Bauldrick has been chosen as our alternate delegate.

Congratulations to the Boys Soccer Team for raising over $850 for the Lydia Project (Breast Cancer Awareness).

Ridge View High School Senior, Jarvis Davis, signed a NCAA Scholarship National Letter of Intent to play basketball next year for the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs of the Western Athletic Conference. Jarvis is the 1st Ridge View High School student to sign a NCAA D-1 Basketball National Letter of Intent in the school's 14 year history. This a rare occurrence--out about 1,000 of the senior basketball players in the state of South Carolina there will be less than 10 who sign to play basketball at this high of level of basketball.

The Sparkleberry Country Fair Scholarship Committee has selected 4 Ridge View High School Seniors to each receive a $1,000 fair scholarship: Ariel J. Bledsoe, Sierra C. Henderson, Samuel McCants, Charles McIntyre.

Congratulations to Coach Moye's Career Prep class who competed in the state's stock market game and finished 64 out of 290 teams across the state. Michael Acuna, Devin Evans, Frank Holbert, and Jaron Woods are the SMG Blue Chip Mayor Program Winners.

Congratulations to Mr. Stiglbauer's Economics students, Kristiaan Fish, Janece Gough, John Knotts, and Bianca Young, for placing 1st at the State EconChallenge. Each student will receive a $100 gift card to Best Buy and a laptop computer.

Congratulations to RVHS dance students, Makabia Butler and Nikesha Nelson, for being selected as 2008 recipients of the South Carolina Dance Education Organization Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award. Ridge View High has been honored to have students receive this award for the last 4 years.

Ridge View has received the Palmetto Gold Award for closing the achievement gap!

Ridge View HOSA students performed above and beyond and we obtained 4 more state medals this year than we did last year! We received 6 First Place Medals, 1 Second Place Medal, 3 Third Place Medals, and we received 5 Top 6 Recognitions in SC. The awards are as follows:
