What is the program?

The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is designed to provide students and school staff with a variety of support services and programs.

The goals of the SRO program are:

To maintain a safe and secure learning environment on the school campus.

To introduce students to law enforcement officers in a positive setting in order to foster mutual trust and respect between the officer and the student.

To reduce crime associated with schools such as trespassing, drug offenses, possession of weapons, and assaults.

These goals are accomplished using the "one officer / one school" concept. Deputies selected as SRO’s work exclusively in "their" school. They remain at the school the entire day while classes are in session and in the evening during special events. They are also available to students and staff members on a 24-hour basis. They serve as both teachers and counselors to the students.
